ASABA, DELTA STATE – Security forces have arrested Abubakar Usman, a high-profile wanted bandit, following a dramatic overnight gun battle deep inside the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest. The operation also successfully rescued a kidnapped woman, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, unharmed.

Mrs. Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, was snatched by gunmen on July 2, 2026, while traveling along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. Her abductors immediately demanded a staggering ₦100 million ransom from her terrified family.

How the Rescue Happened
Upon receiving the alert, the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad moved in. Using advanced “Hydra Tech Surveillance” technology, the team tracked the victim’s location. She was found safe and rescued yesterday along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.

But the police didn’t stop there. They immediately chased the fleeing gang. The manhunt continued through the night until early this morning (around 6:45 am), when the surveillance system pinpointed the suspects’ hideout in the forest.

A fierce gun battle erupted as security operatives closed in. The team successfully overpowered the criminals, capturing Usman, who is listed as one of the region’s most wanted fugitives. However, other members of the gang managed to escape deeper into the forest, taking their firearms with them.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Usman and his gang are the masterminds behind a series of recent kidnappings in Igbodo, Umunede, and nearby communities. They have reportedly extorted millions of naira from innocent families in these areas over the past few months.

Security officials praised the joint effort that led to this success. The operation involved a combined team including the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the Nigeria Forest Security Service, the Ubulu-Uku Anti-Cult Group, and several local government leaders.

The authorities have vowed that the search is still on for the escaped gang members, stating that criminals will have no hiding place in Delta State.
