Governor Adeleke Thanks President Tinubu, Waits Oyebamiji Congratulations, Extend Olive Branch To His Opponents.
Newly re-elected Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has thanked President Bola Tinubu for his role in the election and said he expects his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji, to call and congratulate him.
Adeleke, who spoke shortly after INEC declared him winner, said he was ready to extend an olive branch to his opponents.
“This is no victor, no vanquished. I want them to come over. I am expecting Oyebamiji to even, as a civilised person, to call me and congratulate me.”
The governor also revealed that President Tinubu had called to congratulate him following his victory.
“I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr. President. Mr. President has called me and he has congratulated me.”
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat APC’s Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. He won 19 of Osun’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji won 11. ADC’s Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
On whether he feared losing the election, Adeleke attributed his confidence to his faith, saying:
I have a God who never fails. Jesus never fails forevermore.
