Yesterday, I received a delegation of concerned Edo youths who staged a peaceful protest at the Edo State House of Assembly over the lingering crisis in Gelegele and Ughoton communities of Ovia North East Local Government Area.

I commend the protesters for conducting themselves peacefully and choosing dialogue over violence.

As a House, we remain committed to protecting the rights, safety, and interests of every Edo citizen while ensuring that peace, justice, and the rule of law prevail.

I have assured the delegation that the Edo State House of Assembly will not fold its arms in the face of issues capable of threatening the peace and unity of our dear state. We shall engage all relevant stakeholders, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, whose fatherly role and revered traditional institution remain central to the preservation of peace and the resolution of disputes involving Benin communities.

I also urged the protesters not to take the law into their own hands but to remain peaceful and channel their grievances through lawful means.

I encouraged them to formally present their petition to the House through their representative, Hon. Andrew Uzamere Osadolor, to enable the Assembly commence the necessary legislative engagement.

I have absolute confidence in the leadership of our Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, whose administration is anchored on justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence.

Together, we will ensure that every legitimate concern is addressed within the framework of the law.

Peace remains the foundation of development.

My appeal to all parties involved is to embrace dialogue, shun violence, and allow the appropriate authorities to resolve the issues in the overall interest of our people.

Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku
Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly
