APC Confirms Tinubu Retains Shettima as Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, bringing an end to months of speculation over the composition of the party’s presidential ticket.
The confirmation came on Friday during the formal presentation of the APC presidential nomination forms at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. The completed nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima were presented to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
The event attracted top leaders of the ruling party, including members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the National Working Committee, the Federal Executive Council, the National Assembly caucus, state party chairmen, and other party stakeholders. The submission of the nomination forms comes ahead of the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties to upload the names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election.
Speaking during the ceremony, the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, described the presentation of the forms as another important milestone in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections. He noted that President Tinubu had validly emerged as the party’s presidential candidate through its primary election and called on party members to remain united and committed to ensuring victory at the polls.
Argungu stressed that unity among party faithful would be critical to sustaining the APC’s electoral success, urging members across the country to intensify mobilisation efforts in support of all the party’s candidates.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, reaffirmed the governors’ unwavering support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket. He described the APC primary process as transparent and credible, adding that governors elected on the platform of the party would continue to work together to strengthen the APC ahead of the general election.
Uzodimma expressed optimism that the ruling party would retain power in 2027, urging members to close ranks and work collectively to ensure another electoral victory.
Receiving the nomination forms, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda commended President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for accepting the responsibility of seeking another mandate from Nigerians. He said the presentation reflected the confidence of party members in the leadership of the President and the administration’s ongoing programmes.
Yilwatda highlighted some of the Federal Government’s initiatives, including investments in infrastructure, agricultural development, and the student loan scheme, which he said were designed to improve the welfare of Nigerians and stimulate economic growth.
He expressed confidence that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket would receive overwhelming support across the six geopolitical zones during the 2027 presidential election, adding that the APC remained united, focused, and prepared for the electoral contest.
