Human rights activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has withdrawn from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial race under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Yesufu, who had earlier declared interest in the FCT senatorial seat on the platform of the NDC, announced her withdrawal after the party reportedly decided not to conduct primaries for the senatorial position.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), she told her supporters that while the party would proceed with House of Representatives primaries, no senatorial primary would be held for the FCT seat.

She urged her supporters to remain calm and continue engaging in the political process, saying the focus should remain on broader political participation ahead of the general elections.

Yesufu also expressed appreciation for her supporters across the six area councils of the FCT, noting that she would continue consultations and grassroots engagements.

The development comes amid reports of internal tensions within the party over alleged consensus arrangements for candidates, although the NDC has not officially confirmed the claims.

A viral video also showed party members questioning leadership decisions regarding candidate selection ahead of the primaries.
