Yerima Escapes ‘Assassination’ Attempt In Kubwa, Abuja
Navy Lieutenant Adams Yerima, the young Regular Officer who recently had a face-off with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyelsom Wike, has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt in Kubwa.
It was learnt that the assasins who drove in two unregistered hilix vehicles, trailed him to Gado-Nasko road in Kubwa from NIPCO gas station on Sunday evening.
A source who hinted on the development confirmed that the young officer was okay, adding that special forces of the Nigerian Army and the Navy have since gone to the location.
The source said: “Two unmarked hilux, men in black with no nametags. They trailed the young officer to Kubwa. There was an assassination attempt on him. He’s a bit shaken but he’s safe now.”
Another source who corroborated the story said the officer noticed he was being followed and swiftly executed a strategic maneuver.
“He’s an SBS trained officer and is highly alert. He noticed two unmarked vehicles following him from the expressway to off the highway and took swift action. They were trying to kidnap him but the crowd gathered there didn’t let them. They fled as a result of the crowd. ”
“This matter is being giving all the seriousness it deserves. The Army and the Navy are investigating it and the military is bent on getting to the root of the matter,” said the source.
VOM News exclusively gathered that columns of military vehicles with armed soldiers were seen around Kubwa between 7pm and 8.30pm on Sunday.
This incident is coming on the heels of the now viral confrontation between Wike and the young officer at 1946 Gaduwa disputed land, a scene that has seen majority of Nigerians at home and abroad condemning Wike’s uncouth outbursts.
Military veterans nationwide also criticised Wike for verbally insulting the officer, demanding a public apology and rejecting calls for disciplinary action against Yarima.
