Amazing Nigeria’s First Married Couple to Both Attain the Rank of Brigadier General
Brigadier General Cecilia U. Akagu is a distinguished officer of the Nigerian Army and a native of Ankpa, in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A seasoned military accountant, she belongs to the Finance Corps of the Nigerian Army, where she has built a reputation for professionalism, discipline, and integrity.
Over the years, Brigadier General Akagu has held several strategic financial positions within the Army. She currently serves as the Director of Army Accounts Inspectorate, a critical role that oversees financial accountability and compliance across Army formations-an assignment that reflects the trust and confidence placed in her leadership.
She is married to Brigadier General Clifford B. Wanda, an accomplished senior officer of the Nigerian Army from Enugu Ngwo village, in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Like his wife, Brigadier General Wanda has enjoyed a steady and respected military career, serving in various command and staff positions.
Their story began in 1990, when both officers met during their orientation course at the Nigerian Army training centre in Jaji.
Although commissioned at different ranks Cecilia Akagu as a Second Lieutenant and Clifford Wanda as a Lieutenant-they were course mates during the orientation, a shared experience that laid the foundation for a lifelong partnership built on service, discipline, and mutual respect.
While they are not the first commissioned officers to be married within the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Cecilia Akagu and Brigadier General Clifford Wanda made history by becoming the first married couple in the Nigerian Army to both attain the senior rank of Brigadier General.
